Scripts and Languages
350 Languages for .com and .net
VeriSign’s IDNs may be registered in all character
sets or scripts identified in Unicode 3.2. A domain name holder or a
registrant registers their domain name with a registrar or reseller
in the script of each market targeted. A single company may have multiple
IDNs to support multiple markets. The scripts below support more than
350 languages.
VeriSign’s IDN Conversion Tool enables a domain
name holder to view different encodings for their IDNs .
Written languages use characters to create
script. Unicode is a universal character set used in computing and IDN
support of Unicode makes internationalized names possible.
The IDN Program is based on scripts, not written
languages. Many written languages use multiple scripts and some words
may not be available in the program, because they include characters
from unsupported scripts.
Supported Unicode Code Points
The valid characters for the Internationalized
Domain Name Testbed are those identified within the Unicode 3.2 and
passed through IETF's IDN Name Preparation.
RFC 3492 is Name Preparation version 11 which
encompasses Unicode 3.2.
